Yesterday, March 25th, 2019, I experienced censorship for the first time. I posted an image of a nude momma to be on Facebook. What I didn’t see coming were the extreme measures that Facebook has taken regarding my account. My business page has been unpublished. (You bet I have appealed that decision!)
I knew full well I could get some backlash. Even expected to land in Facebook Jail. Never did I expected them to unpublish my page. You would think that by the actions of Facebook I would have posted some grotesque image that was way out of line. The reality is it is simple and classic. Just a woman in her own skin. Being comfortable in her own skin.
So now I wait! I wait for Facebook to decide if I get to keep my image up. And ultimately if I get to keep my business page.
This experience has got me thinking about how much we depend on Social Media for our businesses. Social Media has no obligation to us as users. Its a free service, and they really have no obligation for customer service.
Yes, it’s an amazing way to get our voices out there, yet in a blink of an eye, all our hard work can be taken away from us. I for one will be making sure that I spend more time blogging. Whatever it takes to get my content out there.
I would like to thank all the individuals who have reached out. Your words of encouragement and support are appreciated. I will not give up. I will not stop creating art!
If we removed Social Media tomorrow… What would you do first in your business marketing?
